Our Story

Anthelion Capital was originally founded in 2015 to bring together investment and data science professionals to accelerate deployment of data science in private markets. Our team identified the opportunity to deploy data science by providing flexible capital to environmentally sustainability companies and partnered with Cowen Inc. in 2018 to launch Cowen Sustainable Investments. In December 2023, co-founders Vusal Najafov and Ewa Kozicz reacquired the firm and rebranded it back to Anthelion Capital.  Our software platform has seen significant improvement over time, especially during the last few months, particularly by leveraging the latest AI platforms. In addition to engagement with portfolio companies, the software platform has been particularly helpful in both direct lending and broadly syndicated bank loans investments.

As of December 2023, Anthelion Capital has approximately $1.3 billion in assets, primarily from large institutional investors including pension plans and sovereign wealth funds. Our mission is to seek to deliver excess risk-adjusted returns by leveraging our upgraded AI software platform and data science team.

Our Approach to Sustainability

Anthelion Capital partners with environmentally sustainable companies to provide bespoke capital and data science solutions.

  • Merging investment expertise with cutting-edge data science

We leverage our new data science platform, global network, and sector expertise to seek to accelerate growth in our portfolio companies. The software is designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of deal sourcing, underwriting, and portfolio management.

  • Deploying bespoke, flexible financing

We customize capital solutions based on the needs and stage of the business and the goals of existing ownership. This approach often results in structures that limit the dilution of current shareholders, including preferred equity, credit (direct and syndicated), hybrid instruments, and asset-level financing. Capital can be used to fund organic growth, acquisitions, recapitalizations, or refinancings. Our investments range from approximately $50M to over $500M.

  • Targeting growth-oriented, environmentally sustainable companies

We partner with companies having a positive impact on the environment. Our ideal target company has annual revenues of over $25 million, strong fundamental performance and organic growth, and clear opportunities for the data science team to add value.

Our Approach to Credit

Anthelion Capital invests in directly originated non-sponsor credit, sponsor middle market credit as well as broadly syndicated bank loans in both primary and secondary markets. We lend to North American companies with minimum LTM EBITDA of $10mm.  Given our dedication to Sustainability and ESG, such companies may not derive the majority of their revenues from the following sectors: Speculative oil and gas extraction; Thermal coal, coal mining, or coal-based power generation; Generation of electricity using nuclear power; Nuclear Services (Decommissioning, Waste Management, etc.); Palm oil production; Controversial weapon production or trading; Gaming or internet gambling; Hazardous chemicals; Adult entertainment; Tobacco or tobacco-related products; Alcohol or alcohol-related products; Payday or predatory lending; and Weapons or firearms.
